FLINT, MICHIGAN (December 5, 2012) – Emterra Environmental USA has purchased a significant portion of the assets of the bankrupt trash and recycling company, Richfield Management and affiliated companies, which had operated in the Mid‐Michigan/Thumb areas.
The assets that Emterra has acquired include recycling and trash collection contracts for approximately 50 communities plus the former Port Huron transfer station.
An Emterra affiliated company has purchased the Cove Landfill in Bad Axe, Huron County. It has been renamed Huron Landfill.
Emterra, a family owned company, intends to continue to deliver trash and recycling services to municipal, residential and commercial customers in all areas of the former business with the exception of Oakland County.
“Our company is committed to providing our new municipal and commercial customers in Michigan with a smooth transition to Emterra as their trash and recycling hauler,” said Emterra CEO Emmie Leung. “And, as soon as we are settled into the collection routines, we’ll be talking to customers about how we can offer a full menu of trash collection and waste diversion activities. For sure this is going to include ramping up recycling services and it also will include special waste such as used electronics and tires collection.”
Emterra is well known for putting the emphasis on recycling before trash disposal. Its mission is to help its customers maximize the recycling of packaging and printed paper and minimize the amount of trash that is disposed of in landfill. For many customers, this includes helping them identify and implement strategies to realize Zero Waste goals.
Emterra’s purchase agreement became official on November 9, 2012. The purchase includes recycling and trash collection trucks. More than 135 people are continuing in their jobs as employees of Emterra.
The acquisition includes a mix of municipal contracts and residential subscriptions and covers the Counties of Genesee, Tuscola, St. Clair, Huron, Lapeer and Sanilac.
Emterra is in the process of contacting businesses and industries that have trash and recycling services contracts that have been acquired by Emterra.
Head office will be at 1606 Webster Road in Flint. Contact information can be found on the company’s website at www.emterraUSA.com. The phone number is 1‐877‐609‐6753.
Emterra Environmental USA is owned by Emmie Leung, who also owns Emterra Group, a Canadian company that operates recycling and trash collection and processing facilities throughout central and western Canada.
