COMOX VALLEY, BC (July 19, 2012) – According to a July 17 news report in the Comox Valley Echo, Emterra Environmental is likely the successful bidder on a three-year contract to collect garbage and recycling from nearly 900 homes in the Royston area. The contract is set to begin in September.
The directors on the Comox Valley Regional District will take the recommendation to award the contract to Emterra to a full board meeting later this month.
Area C director Edwin Grieve called Emterra's bid a "pretty good deal" because it offered the service at $5 less per household than the current contract with another company. The Echo reported that Emterra's bid sparked further discussion that there might be "potential for garbage pick-up services in other areas with significant concentrations of properties that could justify a service being established." Most rural residents currently arrange their own garbage disposal.
Emterra Environmental, a member of the Emterra Group family of companies, currently provides recycling and/or garbage collection to 48 other municipalities in British Columbia. In addition, Emterra Environmental has operations in Manitoba and Ontario. Other Emterra Group companies include Emterra Tire Recycling and Canadian Liquids Processors Ltd., both located in Ontario.
